Weariness comes and goes

Let us  not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians  6:9

Dear Caregivers:

Ever feel like you're playing a never-ending game of life Jenga? Balancing being a superhero spouse, grandkid wrangler, full-time work wizard, business boss, and volunteer extraordinaire, all while adding caregiving to the mix? Phew! It's like trying to juggle flaming torches while riding a unicycle! It's no surprise you hit the exhaustion wall. So, what's the game plan now?

As the solo offspring of my mom, we've hit the switcheroo jackpot – I'm now the mom, and she's the kid! It's like a classic tale of kids turning into parents when their own folks need a hand. I gladly take on this new role with a heart full of love. I'm beyond lucky to share a wonderful bond with my mom, and I'm certain that if our roles were reversed, she'd have my back. That's just the kind of amazing mom she is. When my grandma was unwell, my mom stood by her side, ensuring she got all the care she needed.   I pledged to follow in my mom's footsteps, and hey, I'm making it happen!

Some days, I'm counting down the minutes until I can dive into bed for a well-deserved snooze. Despite feeling drained, I'm thankful for being able to care for my mom. My family squad - hubby and daughters - are my rock stars. Remember, I'm never alone unless I decide to be. Hubby's motto? Don't be shy to ask for help!.

In this season of life, I kickstart each day with a mission in mind. Balancing my mother's care with my other duties is a juggling act, but hey, thanks to a little divine intervention, I manage to keep all the plates spinning. At 55, some days I feel like a rusty robot, but then there are those stellar days when I'm firing on all cylinders. Reflecting on my tough times pales in comparison to my mother's daily battles.  I beyond grateful that God gives me strength and grace every day!

Here's the scoop on what I've learned:

Snooze when needed

Don't shy away from asking for a helping hand

Embrace wellness activities and self-care

Take it slow and steady

Channel my inner Marie Kondo and declutter and get organized

Squeeze in that exercise routine whenever possible

Remember to find something everyday to be grateful for

Take a breather, even Jesus took timeouts

Build your squad and thrive

Knowledge is power

Reflecting on the wise words "Let's keep doing good without burning out, as eventually, we'll reap the rewards if we persist." This nugget reminds me that my purpose is to sprinkle kindness everywhere. Even when I'm running on fumes, I'll keep at it because  GOD is watching. And when my time here on earth is up , I hope to hear, "Well done, my faithful child"  What better way of doing good than be a caregiver.  Prioritizing someone else's needs above your own - it's the ultimate juggling act! Whether you're a parent, an employee, a boss, or just navigating this crazy thing called life, we've all got our plates full with selfless acts!

Writing is a therapeutic activity for me. I have a passion for collecting journals, treating them like rare coins. If you too like journals, check out this one I created for Caregivers
